SRT-More (4) Dodge Caliber, Will It Live Up To The SRT Reputation?
Brett Robertson

Some automotive enthusiasts were singing along with popular band "Green Day" late last year, as they watched a piece of history, become history. "Wake me up, when September ends" They sang, as the fall season brought production of the Dodge Model SRT-4 (Neon) to a closing. It was time for the release of the Dodge Caliber, a replacement for the neon, which was eagerly welcomed by some, and despised by others. Regardless of which side of the fence you were on, any automotive enthusiast is excited when a new forced induction vehicle comes out. Get ready for the release of the Dodge Caliber SRT-4, Can it live up to the awesome SRT reputation?

As popular trends in the industry are constantly changing, so must the mindset of the PVO (Performance Vehicle Operations) designers. For a few years, there has been a market demand for "Boy racer" exterior appearance packages, including OEM body-kits, and agressive rear spoilers. It eliminated the need to spend thousands of dollars in the aftermarket to drive something you were happy with right off the lot. You knew upon getting into an SRT-4 (Neon) that you were buckled down to a machine that could thrill you, impress your friends, compete at the local track, and win car shows for the sticker price. Thats a heck of a reputation to uphold, but the PVO team was up to the challenge. As the market leans towards more power hungry enthusiasts, and the need for a little more space as larger vehicles become more popular at this time, the Dodge Caliber SRT-4 was the answer, to the popular calling. Take a look at these features, specs, and photos:

  • 300 horsepower, 260 lb-feet of torque
  • 0-60 in under 6 seconds (similar to Neon SRT-4)
  • 28 mpg on the highway (22 city)
  • Front wheel drive / Getrag 6-speed manual transmission only
  • Quarter mile in under 14 seconds
  • 60-0 braking in 115 feet

The unique SRT touches include sport seating with aggressive bolstering and performance fabric inserts to hold occupants during spirited driving, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with a carbon fiber pattern on the upper portion. The seats, steering wheel and leather shift boot feature contrasting stitching. Also unique to the 2007 Dodge Caliber SRT4 is an alloy silver finish on the instrument panel and shift bezel, and bright aluminum pedal pads that feature rubber studs for enhanced grip.

The center-stack-mounted shifter includes a lift ring to engage reverse, unique to the Dodge Caliber SRT4, as well as a leather-finished shift knob.

The instrument panel features three gauge tunnels outfitted with performance-oriented instrumentation, including a tachometer, 200-mph speedometer and water temperature and fuel gauges. A turbocharger boost gauge is located on the left side of the instrument panel.

The 2007 Dodge Caliber SRT4 is equipped with a standard AM-FM radio with a multi-disc CD changer control. An available SRT/Kicker high-performance audio system includes 13 speakers in seven locations, powered by a 322-watt amplifier and 100-watt subwoofer. Also availabe are the UConnect Hands Free Communications System and SIRIUS Satellite Radio.

The interior of the 2007 Dodge Caliber SRT4 is offered in Dark/Light Slate Gray.
